Presentation of the project
Context
Under Makanati project, implemented by CFI, and with the support of the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, AHJ is pleased to launch a call for application for an online workshop on Specialized Journalism and Leadership. CFI, the French Agency for Media Development, a subsidiary of France Médias Monde, oversees coordinating and leading the French policy of Development Aid for Media and works alongside media organizations and members of civil society, to promote pluralistic and democratic news and to support the objectives of sustainable development.

AHJ is an association registered under French law (1901), founded in 2017. It allows people in the conflict zones, especially women, to train in journalism and creativity, to assert their rights to freedom of expression, information, and education. AHJ acts within a secular framework and is open to all ethnic groups and minorities.

The project Makanati (which means “my place” in Arabic), aims to encourage a wider participation of women, a better understanding by the local population of the challenges they face, particularly through the production and dissemination of information about women. It also aims to raise awareness among journalists and future journalists of the subject of gender equality in the media, women’s rights, and leadership.

Objectives: According to Makanati project objectives, AHJ will organize Specialized Journalism and Leadership workshop to create a more gender-balanced media environment and build leadership capacity for the young potential or rising journalists in Iraq who are interested in becoming specialized journalists.
بەپێی ئامانجەکانی پرۆژەی مەکاناتی، رێكخراوی ئاژ خوولی ڕۆژنامەوانی تایبه‌ت و سەرکردایەتیی ڕێکدەخات بۆ دروستکردنی ژینگەیەکی میدیایی هاوسەنگتری ڕەگەزی و دروستکردنی توانای سەرکردایەتی بۆ توانای گەنجەکان و بەرزبوونەوەی ئاستی ڕۆژنامەنووسه ژنه‌كان.
Through this training, young women journalists and students in Iraq will be able to place their mark in the media scene as specialized capable media professionals and promote their careers through creating more thematic media productions from a gender perspective. By the end of this training, not only will the beneficiaries be given the tools to commence their journey as specialized journalists, but they will also have a draft personal development plan and have already created their first specialized gender-sensitive media production and pitched it to established media for publication creating a professional connection in the media community.

How will workshop work?
The training will be divided into two comprehensive and interactive online sessions separated by one week to allow for practical work. In the sessions, the participants will be trained in the following skills:

By the end of the training, the participants will have created their personal development plans to guide their careers as specialized journalists, have created their specialized media production and pitched it to an established media platform and have joined a regional network of specialized women journalists.

If you are a beginner women journalist living in Iraq who are either in your final year of media college – or other relevant discipline – or are a fresh graduate interested in making a career for yourself in journalism, then you are a perfect candidate for this opportunity.
