In the frameworks of its projects in Sudan, the French media development agency, CFI, is pleased to invite journalists and content creators focusing on producing cultural content in Sudan, at various professional levels, to apply for a training program that will be covering topics related to cultural content creation and that is aimed at enhancing their skills.
The program aims to produce, promote and publish attractive and meaningful cultural content that interacts dynamically with daily life in Sudan and responds fully to the needs of people in Sudan, particularly women and youth, drawing attention to the components of local reality within the overall national framework.
In partnership with the French Embassy in Sudan and Monte Carlo Doualiya Radio, CFI welcomes all applicants, especially women, youth and disabled people to apply. Applicants from or residing in Darfur, Kordofan, Blue Nile and Eastern States are also encouraged to apply.
The selection of beneficiaries will be made according to clear and transparent criteria. The trainings, divided into different components, will be covered by experts and professionals from Sudan and the MENA region. Expenses related to the trainings (transportation, accommodation, etc.) will be covered by CFI.
CFI will also be working in coordination with the Sudan Academy for Communication Sciences and Media Training in Khartoum.
Training program
The 5-days training will take place in Khartoum and will divided into two components.
Participants will first attend the same training sessions for 3 days and they will then be divided into two modules for the 2 remaining days:
- The first component will be for all participants (common core curriculum) – 3 days:
- Introductory Session:
a- What is Culture?
b- Understanding Media.
c- Setting up the Themes of the Training Program, laying bare the assumptions, explaining the methods, rationale and targets of the Program and clearing up any possible mystification.
d- Cultural Program Pre-Test.
- Cultural Policies.
- Roots and Manifestations of Sudanese Culture.
- Recurrent Cultural themes and Constraints in Cinema, TV, Radio, and the Press.
- Sudanese Cinema: Past, Present and Future.
- Managing Media Establishments and Cultural Foundations.
- Media Issues and Concerns (Human Rights, Equality and Orientation).
- Promoting Diversity, Inclusion, Social Cohesion and Gender Equality.
- National and Cultural Identities.

The second component will be divided into two modules for two different groups – 2 days:
- Group 1: Journalists and creators of cultural content in the form of videos, TV reports and short movies
- Filming Social and Cultural Issues
- Digital Media, Investigative and Data Journalism
- Introduction to Documentary Filmmaking
- Understanding News
- Media and the Culture of Peace
- Concluding Session for the two strands: Concluding Project Outline, Post-Test and Training Evaluation + Sounds and Colours: Live Demonstrations of Sudanese Culture

Group 2: Journalists and creators of cultural content in the form of audio or radio reports & podcasts, and print media (including online print media)
- Writing and Producing Radio/Podcasts programs with cultural content
- Media Planning: The Theory and the Practice
- Identifying Stories and Story Structure
- Media and Cultural Concerns: Ethical Journalism, Hate Speach (Monitoring and Aanalysing)
- The Visual Radio
- Concluding Session for the two strands: Concluding Project Outline, Post-Test and Training Evaluation + Sounds and Colours: Live Demonstrations of Sudanese Culture
After the training, the beneficiaries will be supported by CFI to create content related to their training. They will be accompanied by trainers through coaching sessions to select their report topic or cultural content topic and then to create it. The created content must also correspond to the formats of social networks.
The contents produced will be evaluated by a jury including CFI, media experts and Monte Carlo Doualiya radio representatives, and prizes will be awarded to the best 2 contents. The produced contents will then be shared on partner media.
Candidate’s application
To apply for this training program, you must:
- Be a journalist or content creator living in Sudan (this includes citizen-journalists) – Applicants from Darfur, Kordofan, Blue Nile and Eastern States are encouraged to apply. Youth, particularly women, and disabled people are encouraged to apply.
- Have proven experience in producing cultural content in Sudan.
- Have content creation skills and the desire to deepen your skills.
- Have an interest in the main topics covered by the training program.
- Be available to attend the applicable training sessions in Khartoum and commit to attending them (travel and accommodation fees will be covered by CFI).
- Have the language proficiency to attend the trainings in Arabic.
- Commit to produce content related to the training program and authorize CFI & Monte Carlo Doualiya Radio to reproduce and disseminate them (non-commercial use).
