Revitalising and Enhancing Media in Sudan (REM) – Call for applications

Call for applications for the selection of 8 Sudanese radio stations to benefit from a rehabilitation program (business, organisational and content production support)

In the frameworks of its Revitalising and Enhancing Media in Sudan (REM) project the Delegation of the European Union to Sudan and in partnership with Internews, CFI, the French media development agency, is pleased to invite radio stations from Sudan, based inside or outside the country, that fall under the below category to benefit from:

  • Business and Organisational Support
  • Training and Mentorship for Radio Producers and Editors
  • Building of a Network of Local Broadcasters
  • Core-funding grants.

There will be one category of beneficiaries:

  • Sudanese radio stations (including community and online radio stations) based inside or outside Sudan.

The Revitalising and Enhancing Media in Sudan (REM) project seeks to address these urgent needs by strengthening the capacity and resilience of Sudanese media. Its overarching objective is to improve access to high-quality, inclusive, and fact-based information, enabling the Sudanese public to make informed decisions and engage constructively in peacebuilding and social cohesion.

This rehabilitation and capacity building program is a 2-year program and will be composed of

  • Business and organisational support

CFI will provide the selected radio stations with organisation-building support to develop their governance, administrative and editorial aspects including their policies and internal processes, as well as technical support.
The selected radio stations will benefit from a 4-day online workshop with two trainers that will be followed up with individual mentoring over four months for the development of financial and editorial plans.

  • Training and Mentorship for Radio Producers and Editors

CFI will provide individual online editorial trainings and mentorship for radio producers and editors of the eight radio stations. This support will be tailored down to the specific needs of each radio station. It will address the following topics: humanitarian content and information for underserved audiences; radio production; community participation/talk shows/audience engagement; public interest radio; and gender and women’s voices on the radio.
The selected radio stations will benefit from 2 days training and mentorship per month during 14 months.

  • Build a Network of Local Broadcasters

A network will be formed to bring together radio partners which represent that diversity.
The radio stations will form the advisory board of the network which, together with the external expert, will define the network’s internal rules concerning its scope and accessibility, in particular to enable other radio stations to join and benefit from the sharing of experience and content.
The radio stations will benefit from a 3 days one site workshop in Nairobi or Kampala.

  • Grants

CFI will provide financial grants to each of the same eight selected radio stations supported. These core-funding grants will also support the production of policies and processes and the content production in line with the editorial and business plan developed during the workshops.

The selection of beneficiaries will be made according to clear and transparent criteria.
The different training modules will be delivered by experts and professionals from the MENA region.
