Support to Democratic Reforms in Jordan

Call for applications for the selection of a maximum of 20 media outlets or journalists to benefit from workshops on specialized reporting linked to the Election organized by CFI which will be held in Amman in (July and August).

In the frameworks of its “Support to Democratic Reforms in Jordan” funded by the EU, CFI, the French media development agency, is pleased to invite Journalists based in Jordan, that fall under the below categories to apply to benefit from.

Presentation of the program

In the frameworks of its “Support to Democratic Reforms in Jordan” funded by the EU, CFI, the French media development agency, is pleased to invite Journalists based in Jordan, that fall under the below categories to apply to benefit from:

  1. 5 days of training on how to report on political, financial and budgetary issues
  2. 5 days of training on the new Elections law, the work of Parliament and parliamentary debates for effective and accurate reporting
    OR
  3. 5 days of training on coverage of the Election process and challenges & gender sensitive reporting.

There will be 2 categories of beneficiaries: 

  1. a) Journalists working in the media outlets or media initiatives/platforms/projects covering the Elections.
  2. b) Freelance journalists 

Under the project EU Support to democratic reforms, CFI will implement a series of media activities including capacity-building, awareness campaigns and grant schemes for media initiatives, in order to use media as a booster to encourage democratic participation, in particular of women and youth, and push civic content related to the Elections.

There will be 3 training programmes:

Please note that accommodation will be provided for participants residing outside Amman.

The selected journalists will benefit from 3 capacity building workshops of 5-days each. The workshops will take place between July 2024 and August 2024. 

These sessions, led by experienced trainers and coaches, will aim to strengthen the skills of the participants on how to report on political, financial and budgetary issues as well as the new Elections law, the work of Parliament and parliamentary debates for effective and accurate reporting and coverage of the Election process and challenges. Training will also include:

  • how to interview a politician, 
  • how to report parliamentary debates, 
  • gender-sensitive reporting,
  • etc. 

Through capacity-building activities, information production, verification processes and media usage will be better understood by the beneficiaries. The workshops will be based on theory but also on practical exercises, sharing of best practices and case studies.

Each training cycle will consist of 5-days (with a break between each workshop).

The thematics are

First thematic

10 days of trainings (5 days for each of the 2 sub-thematics)

  1. The new Elections law, the work of Parliament and parliamentary debates for effective and accurate reporting
  2.  Coverage of the Election process and challenges & gender sensitive reporting

Second thematic

5 days of training

  1. How to report on political, financial and budgetary issues

The selection of beneficiaries will be made according to clear and transparent criteria. The trainings, divided into different components, will be covered by experts and professionals from the MENA region

Eligibility criteria

 Journalists and journalism students

To apply for this training program, you must:

  • Be a Jordanian journalist based in Jordan – Youth, particularly women, and disabled people are encouraged to apply;
  • Have an experience in covering political issues.
  • Have an interest in producing contents related to the selected topic and the desire to increase their knowledge and deepen their skills;
  • Be available to attend the applicable training sessions;
  • Have the language proficiency to attend the trainings in Arabic;
  • Commit to produce a content related to the training programme and authorise CFI to reproduce and disseminate them (non-commercial use).
