The SafirLab programme was created to provide support for young people from Egypt, Jordan, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia and Yemen who are involved in initiatives in the media and civil society. Now, CFI and the Institut français are seeking applicants for the 2014 programme. Are you Moroccan, Egyptian, Jordanian, Yemeni, Tunisian, Libyan and aged between 20 and 30? Are you involved in a project focusing on the issues of citizenship, local governance and the media, with the aim of fostering development and dynamism in civil society in your country?
The SafirLab programme was created for you.
CONTEXT
The Institut Français (IF) and CFI, operators of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development, have established a program dedicated to young “actors of change” committed to the new social dynamics in Egypt, Jordan, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia and Yemen. This program, called SafirLab, is an annual program inviting the youth of these countries to a mentorship and experience-sharing platform. It will take place in Paris for two weeks.

OBJECTIVE
The objective of SafirLab is to create a sustainable dialogue with young people between the ages of 20 and 30 who are committed to the issues of citizenship, media and local governance. Designed as a “cradle” for projects, it supports this youth in their journey to realise their professional or associative project by offering them mentorship and personalised tools and methods.
SafirLab also aims at establishing a network based on common values and the sharing of experiences.

PARTICIPANTS
Around twenty young actors, offering initiatives related to citizenship, local governance, as well as media, and participating in the evolution and the dynamism of their country’ s civil society, will benefit from this program.

GEOGRAPHIC AREA
The concerned countries are Egypt, Jordan, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia and Yemen.

DATE
from the 9th till the 23rd of November 2014

THE STAGES OF THE PROJECT
1- Identification and selection

The identification and the selection of the project holders will be held from April until June 2014 as follows:

April 2014: Broadcasting the call for applications in French, Arabic and English.

May 2014: Holding a screening at the Institut Français allowing the identification of eligible candidates. Themes relating to citizenship, good governance and media will be favoured.

May-June 2014: Pre-selected candidates then have to pass an interview with the selection committee. This interview will be held in each concerned country. The jury will be consisting of members representing the embassies, the Institut Français, the CFI and the mentors from each field. Around twenty participants will be selected for the 2014 edition of SafirLab.

2- Incubation

The program will take place in Paris from the 9th till the 23rd of November 2014. It is designed to follow a progressive course; therefore, it will alternate between periods of core curriculum and personalised mentorship, while:

putting at the disposal of the participants tools and methods adapted to each individual project,

establishing a personalised mentorship system in order to elaborate a specialised course for each project. This part of the program will include organising professional meetings, collaborative work sessions between the French professionals, foreign professionals and the participants, forming connections, exchanging and sharing knowledge and competencies.

3- Follow up

In order to contribute to the development of the SafirLab participants’ network and to sustain it, a follow up plan will be established.
